Enton County reported its fifth COVID-19-related death Thursday

Denton County reported its fifth COVID-19-related death Thursday: of a man in his 70’s who lived in Carrollton. The man was previously reported hospitalized and got the disease through community spread, health officials said.

“The seriousness of taking precautions cannot be Dallas News overstated," County Judge Andy Eads said in a written statement. "With community spread endemic in our county, we must take the necessary steps to ensure we do not contribute to the problem.”

The county also reported 23 additional positive cases Thursday, bringing its total to 254. That total includes two staff members at the Denton State Supported Living Center, which has reported having a large cluster of cases after the first positive cases were identified in March.

Public health officials said the center now has a total of 50 positive cases of the virus.

The county said 25 staff members at the center, which cares for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, have tested positive. Twenty reside in Denton County and 5 reside outside the county, public health officials said.

Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported three additional deaths from coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the county’s total to six.

All three were elderly patients with underlying conditions, Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said.

Two lived in Forest Hill and one lived in Fort Worth. No other information was provided.

The county also reported 37 new cases had been confirmed, for a total of 325.

Tarrant County Public Health staff will investigate who the patients may have come into contact with before they tested positive, Taneja said, and others will be isolated as needed.


Collin County
Collin County on Thursday was reporting a total of 140 active cases of coronavirus and a total of 227 cases and one death overall.

Fifth Dallas officer diagnosed
A fifth Dallas police officer has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the department announced Thursday morning.

The officer, who is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, was diagnosed Wednesday night and hasn’t been at work since March 28, a Dallas police spokesman said.

The department’s medical team will determine if others at the station should be isolated to guard against coronavirus, Sgt. Warren Mitchell said in a news release.

The officer’s vehicle has been taken out of service and will be cleaned Press Release Distribution Services In Dallas and sanitized, along with parts of the building where the officer worked, Mitchell said.

A fourth officer tested positive and was in isolation, the department announced Wednesday.

The Southeast division is on Jim Miller Road in southeast Dallas and is the fourth of seven divisions to report a positive diagnosis. The South Central, Central and Northeast patrol divisions have also reported cases.
